Teeth Whitening at Our Arvada Office

Teeth whitening service before and after

Do you have stained teeth? Coffee, smoking, medications, age, and more can cause your smile to lose it’s natural whiteness. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be permanent. One easy teeth whitening appointment with your Arvada dentist can lighten teeth by multiple shades.

Why Are My Teeth Yellow?

There are many causes for yellow teeth, a lot of them unavoidable.

  • Smoking
This is one of the leading causes of yellow teeth and stubborn stains.
  • Diet
Foods and drinks that are high in tannins cause teeth yellowing. These include coffee, wine, and soda.
  • Fluoride
Surprisingly, overexposure to fluoride can cause yellow teeth, especially in kids.
  • Medications
Certain medicines and therapies can cause teeth discoloration. People undergoing chemotherapy, asthma treatment, or taking high blood pressure medicines are at risk for yellow teeth.
  • Bad Oral Hygiene
People who don’t take care of their teeth are especially prone to discoloration. Unfortunately, even people who have a diligent oral care routine can get yellow teeth simply with age.

Our Teeth Whitening Treatments

Dentist and patient comparing tooth colors for teeth whitening treatment

We offer an in-house whitening treatment where we use the latest solutions to get you a brighter smile in no time. We’ll apply a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide-based whitening product to your teeth through custom mouth trays. This is a higher concentration of bleach so your results should last longer. You may only need an hour or a couple visits to get the smile you want.

You can also take your teeth whitening treatment home with one of our take-home systems. You’ll get custom mouth trays that you add a bleaching gel to and can wear for a half hour to one hour a day. Whiten your teeth within a few weeks on your own time!

Does Whitening Your Teeth Get Rid Of All Stains?

Certain colored stains respond better to whitening than others. For instance, yellow teeth can be more easily whitened than brown-colored teeth. Blue-gray staining may take up to six months of regular treatment to lighten completely. For deep, dark stains your dentist may recommend veneers, bonding, or crowns to lighten your teeth. Results vary from person to person with teeth whitening treatments due to teeth conditions, severity of stains, concentration and type of bleach, and treatment time.

Is Teeth Whitening Bad For Your Teeth?

No, teeth whitening isn’t bad for your teeth or harmful to a tooth’s nerve. Your dentist will discuss with you the right product and plan for your unique needs.

Are There Side Effects To Teeth Whitening?

Though teeth whitening is safe, you might feel some side effects during or after your treatment like:

  • Sensitivity
On your first or second treatment, your teeth may feel a little sensitive. Don’t worry, this will diminish over time. If your teeth become sensitive, your dentist can recommend products that contain potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride to help.
  • Gum Irritation
When the teeth whitening product touches your gums, they might get irritated. This will also go away after your treatment.

Is Dentist Teeth Whitening Worth It?

It’s definitely worth the extra cost to go to the dentist for teeth whitening. While over-the-counter whitening products are easy and cheap, they’re not always the best way to get the smile you want. These products are not as strong as what your dentist uses, and therefore not as effective. Dentist teeth whitening is safe, effective, and longer-lasting. Going to your dentist also ensures the right bleaching treatment if you have sensitive teeth or gums.

How Can I Keep My Teeth White After Treatment?

What you eat and drink, along with your oral hygiene will influence how long your teeth will stay white. After your teeth whitening treatment, you’ll still be susceptible to staining so make sure to keep teeth-staining foods and drinks in mind daily. To keep your teeth white after treatment, it helps to rinse your mouth or brush your teeth soon after eating or drinking. That way, you can keep staining agents and plaque from settling into your teeth. Brush twice a day with regular toothpaste and floss at least once a day. Remove surface stains with a whitening toothpaste once or twice a week. It’s also a great idea to come back to the dentist for routine whitening touch-ups.
